Summary Pakistan Stock Exchange surrendered an early rally of more than 800 points, with the KSE-100 Index reversing course to close 508 points lower at 176,466.
KARACHI (Dunya News) -The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a sharp intraday reversal as an early rally of more than 800 points evaporated, sending the benchmark KSE-100 Index down 508 points by the close of trading.
The market began the session on a strong footing, with buying momentum pushing the KSE-100 above the 177,800-point level.
However, the bullish trend proved short-lived. Selling pressure emerged during the session and dragged the benchmark into negative territory, with the weakness continuing through the close.
The KSE-100 eventually settled at 176,466 points, down from its previous close of 176,975.
The scale of the intraday movement highlighted heightened volatility at the PSX.
After rising more than 800 points during early trade, the index ended 508 points below its previous closing level. This represents a swing of more than 1,300 points between the early gains and the eventual close.
Based on the reported closing figures, the KSE-100 lost approximately 0.29% during the session.
The reversal showed that early buying interest was not strong enough to withstand selling pressure later in the day.
Investors initially pushed equities higher as the new trading session got underway, taking the benchmark close to the 178,000-point threshold.
Momentum subsequently weakened as selling accelerated.
The index was unable to recover before the closing bell, leaving the market firmly in negative territory despite its strong start.
Such sharp intraday reversals are closely watched by investors because they can indicate profit-taking, shifting sentiment or uncertainty over the market’s near-term direction.
The information provided did not identify a specific trigger for Tuesday's reversal.
The decline also pushed the KSE-100 back below the psychologically important 177,000-point mark.
In the previous trading session, the benchmark had closed at 176,975 points.
The latest finish at 176,466 means attention will now turn to whether buyers return in the next session or selling pressure continues.
Investors are also likely to monitor domestic economic developments, monetary policy expectations, corporate announcements and other market-moving factors as they assess the direction of Pakistani equities.
