Summary Sindh CTD arrested two alleged TTP militants in Karachi, recovering hand grenades and uncovering suspected reconnaissance activities targeting security installations.
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh, in coordination with a federal civilian intelligence agency, arrested two alleged militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an operation in Karachi.
According to the CTD spokesperson, the suspects were identified as Umar Farooq and Abdullah and were associated with the banned TTP’s Mufti Saad group. Two hand grenades were also recovered from their possession.
The spokesperson said the suspects had arrived in Karachi from Afghanistan on the instructions of their commander and had allegedly been assigned different responsibilities for carrying out terrorist activities in the city.
The suspects were allegedly conducting reconnaissance of key locations and officers associated with the Rangers and police and were sharing the information gathered with their commander.
The recovered hand grenades were allegedly intended to be handed over to another accomplice on the commander’s instructions and were reportedly planned for use against sensitive installations.
Two cases have been registered against the suspects at the CTD Operations Karachi police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Explosive Substances Act.
The suspects are being interrogated, while special teams have been formed to track down their alleged accomplices.
The CTD and other law enforcement agencies are continuing joint operations, with further developments expected.
